L ́Ostal Cazes Rosé 2021

A blushing summer

l ostalThe weather is warmer, and our minds turn to summer gatherings and time spent outside. Afternoons are long and cocktails are less appealing. A well-balanced rosé is what’s needed, and L ́Ostal Cazes Rosé 2021 will fit the bill admirably.

In the late 1800s Jean-Charles Cazes had made a living as a baker in Pauillac. By 1939 the family had become wealthy enough to take over Château Lynch-Bages and diversified into wine production. Today, the estate is run by the third generation Cazes. Jean-Michel has been in running the company since 1973 and has elevated Lynch-Bages into the top five Châteaux in Pauillac. In 2002 Jean-Michel bought a property with 150 hectares of associated land. The house was given the name “Domaine de l’Ostal” which means “House” or “Family Group” in the ancient local Occitan language. The production of rosé has also become a huge success.

L ́Ostal Cazes Rosé 2021 is a salmon pink rosé. It’s made with the classic marriage of Grenache and Syrah. In order to obtain its beautiful pale pink colour, the grapes are pressed immediately after picking, at low temperatures in order to reduce the extraction of phenolic (tannic) and colour compounds. The resulting juices are racked before being fermented at a low temperature in order to preserve their aromatic character. 2021 was a great year for the estate, especially for the whites and the rosés.
