Kraken has Contemporary Flavour.
They had me at ‘Spiced Rum’ but when Kraken offered me Caramel and Cornish Sea Salt Black Spiced Rum, I was convinced that this was likely the best in their range.
Is it the best? Well, that is a matter of taste, but this Limited Edition should have wide appeal to rum aficionados as well as those who think they don’t even like rum. If this rum doesn’t get them hooked then they are a lost cause!
The concept is born of the maritime myths of the rugged Cornish coast. As legend has it, terrified smugglers, fearful of the curse of the mighty sea monster Kraken, stashed a trove of contraband in a remote cove, including crates of dark caramel and barrels of delicious Black Spiced Rum. Lost for centuries, these exotic riches were dashed together by time and preserved amidst the cool breeze and crisp salt of the Cornish Sea. Modern adventurers recently retrieved this rare bounty of rum. I am not persuaded by that tall tale but rather assume that Caramel & Cornish Sea Salt Black Spiced Rum was crafted by blending professionals, with not a hint of a pirate musket anywhere in the distillery.
Butter adding richness
Kraken Caramel and Cornish Sea Salt Black Spiced Rum is a winner. It has notes of toffee with a suspicion of sea salt to add contemporary appeal for a new audience. The colour is dark caramel and it’s there on the nose, too. Rum and caramel are to the fore on the palate, but that suspicion of salt lingers on the finish, and perhaps even a little butter adding richness.
If you are looking for a gift for a rum lover, then this might offer something a little different. It will also be a bottle appreciated by those new to rum. Christmas will soon be here, so grab Kraken Caramel and Cornish Sea Salt Black Spiced Rum while it’s available.
