This rich and fruity red wine is produced from grapes from the Colchagua Valley in the southern Rapel Valley region. The lush vineyards are fed by the Tinguiririca River; the temperature is warm and moderate all year. Part of the blend has been aged in French oak barrels for 12 months, which adds to its depth, character and balance.
Summer is the time for al fresco barbecued meats and they need wines which complement those robust flavours. Block 18 Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon is a great pairing. It will also work later in the year when the temperatures are cooler and one’s thoughts turn to roast beef. Keep the bottle in your cool dark wine cellar (or in that cupboard under the stairs) and it will still be in perfect condition in a couple of years’ time.
