Balans Soho Society, Seven Dials – restaurant review

balans chickenI have had many a vibrant Brunch at Balans and I am drawn there for the Eggs in Hell – 2 eggs poached in a tomato chilli sauce with a sprinkle of parmesan, and Balans potatoes. It should be a signature dish. Yes, lots of visits to other branches but this was the first time for dinner and the first time at Seven Dials.

A full meal or snacks with drinks

This is a bistro-style restaurant with banquettes aplenty. Tables sport the familiar House condiments and the bar carries Parisianesque metal jugs as well as a full complement of spirits. The menu is well balanced with selections of small and large dishes, so ideal for a full meal or snacks with drinks.

Black Garlic Roast Chicken with shiitake mushrooms, broad beans, herbs and lemon was particularly good and the portion substantial. Coconut Shrimp with mango salsa and sweet and sour essence is a great starter but would also be a delightful nibble with drinks. The star of this meal was the Coffee Cake. Perhaps Balans will be on my list for a cuppa tea, a nice sit down and a slice of gateau, in future.
