Wakefield Pinot Grigio 2023
Promised Land White.
Bill Taylor began his search to find the perfect plot of land on which to establish his family wine estate. In 1969 he found a site by the Wakefield River in South Australia’s Clare Valley. His Promised Land wines are produced from vineyards across South Australia’s regions such as Padthaway and Limestone Coast. This Pinot Grigio 2023 is part of the Wakefield collection.
Mission to save threatened seahorses
Wakefield is supporting Project Seahorse on its mission to save threatened seahorses and protect marine habitats around the globe. A seahorse is emblazoned on each label of this Promised Land collection. The family found fossilised remains of seahorses while digging on the estate. This indicates the vineyard had once been part of an inland sea.
Pinot Grigio is the Italian name for the French Pinot Gris grape. It was first introduced to Australia in 1832. It produces a crisp white wine which is perfect for summer sipping. It has plenty of citrus on the nose, with notes of green apples and pears. It is dry and light and delicious when served well chilled. It pairs particularly well with seafood pasta, fritto misto and white meat in light sauces.
