It’s National Tea Day on 21 April providing the perfect excuse to mingle a favourite tipple – gin – with the nation’s favourite cuppa*. This Rock Rose G & Tea cocktail is, well, just our cup of tea.
The bergamot notes in this fine, fragrant black tea pair well with the botanicals in Rock Rose Gin and are enhanced in this cocktail recipe with the addition of just a little extra bergamot.
This 41.5%ABV gin from the very north coast of Scotland offers up a delicate aroma of rose from the locally foraged rose of the rock, mixed cardamom and a touch of citrus. When you taste it, berry notes merge with the slightly floral nose to give a full-bodied, rounded gin, with the zing of juniper coming through followed by the sharpness of the sea buckthorn and a long, sherbet lemon finish.
Ingredients for a Rock Rose G & Tea
50ml Rock Rose Gin
50ml Chilled Earl Grey tea
25ml Sugar syrup
25ml Lemon juice
A few drops of bergamot bitters (optional)
Garnish: lemon or bergamot peel
Half fill a cocktail shaker and add all the ingredients. Shake well and then strain into a rocks glass with a large ice ball. Garnish with a twist of lemon or, in winter, a twist of bergamot.
