Most of us appreciate a good burger made with the finest ingredients and cooked to perfection. It’s even better when one can enjoy the experience at home. The Beefy Boys offer the perfect DIY kits.
So, who are these lads? Four friends in Hereford started their burger dream about 10 years ago. They entered a BBQ competition in Bristol called Grillstock. This was a UK-based BBQ festival in which teams would enter and compete for the title of ‘King of the Grill’! They won the award for Best Burger and consequently got entered in the World Food Championships in Las Vegas. They represented the UK against 50 other teams from across the globe. They came second in the world – not a bad accolade for a European outfit!
They opened their first restaurant in Hereford in 2015 and then launched a food truck. In 2021 The Beefy Boys opened their second site in Shrewsbury and in 2023 a third site in Cheltenham. In the same year they won Signature Burger and Burger Chef of the Year at The National Burger awards.
The Beefy Boys use 100% Hereford Beef in their burgers, sourced from local butchers Neil Powell and local farmer Johnny Morris. They contain 100% meat! No egg, no fillers, no breadcrumbs, it’s just two cuts of 21-day aged beef, ground fresh every day and never frozen.
And then there are the buns! They are baked fresh every day by award-winning local baker Peter Cook. Made from locally sourced ingredients with a sourdough starter, they are 100% natural with no added chemicals, preservatives or raising agents!
Every burger needs a good sauce, and they make all of these on site, using both local ingredients and specially sourced items like fresh Jalapeños, Tomatillos and Chipotles. All you need to do is select your DIY box, grill the meat and construct your burger just the way you like it!
We tried the popular Small Beefy Boy DIY Box. The kit contains 4 x burger patties, 1 x Beefy Boys special sauce, 2 x baconaise, 1 x chipotle, 1 x pot of gherkins, 1 x pot of seasoning, 4 x bacon rashers, 4 x cheese slices and 4 x buns. The ingredients arrive in insulated envelopes and are packed with frozen gel packs for freshness.
