I have a few favourite wine styles and one of those is Spanish Rioja; Tesco Finest offer this Viña Del Cura and it’s a great example of the genre. This is a classic Spanish wine with complexity from oak ageing.
Viña del Cura Rioja Denominación de Origen Calificada Reserva from Tesco Finest is produced in partnership with the celebrated Riojan Baron De Ley winery founded in 1985. It’s made with Tempranillo, a grape that is indigenous to Spain and is the most popular grape variety in this wine-growing region of northern Spain. This is a worthy expression of Rioja Reserva. It has benefited from over 16 months in barrel and time in the bottle.
Pairing with game
This delicious Rioja is made from hand-harvested Tempranillo grapes and is carefully aged in fine oak barrels. It derives much of its flavour profile from that contact with oak, which is responsible for adding that hint of leather and spice which is so prized by Rioja lovers. Plenty of black and red berry flavours here too, making this a wonderful choice as a pairing with game, beef and also lamb, as the balanced tannins cut through that rich meat.
Viña del Cura Rioja Denominación de Origen Calificada Reserva from Tesco Finest is a quality wine at a very reasonable price and can be consumed now or laid down for a year or so.
