Famille Lafont Tavel Rosé
Striking wine for Summer!
The Lafont family has had a presence here in the Southern Rhone Valley since 1780. They created Domaine Lafont in Roc-Epine in 1970, and this exceptional Tavel Rosé is part of their range.
The domaine spreads across 74 hectares of land growing vines which produce 4 different appellations: Tavel, Lirac, Côtes du Rhone, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. That is quite the accolade!
Tavel is the Rhône’s only appellation dedicated to rosé. This dark pink (or is it pale red?) wine is crisp and dry, so making it a great choice when well-chilled, as a pre-dinner sip on hot summer evenings.
Famille Lafont Tavel Rosé will likely convert those who have hitherto considered rosé as wimpy and watery. This one has a much more robust colour – and character to go with that. It offers a full mouthfeel with plenty of red summer fruit and just a hint of spice.
I consider this rosé as a great all-rounder. One can start the evening with this and continue to the meal. It pairs well with Mediterranean dishes, all meats, and Thai curries and the like too.
Famille Lafont Tavel Rosé is a classy winner. Yes, it’s all a matter of taste but it’s a versatile summer wine at a reasonable price point, and available at Tesco.
