Actor, writer, producer, singer, songwriter and DJ Idris Elba has partnered with two French estates on his own label, Porte Noire, and his Porte Noire Champagne by Sanger is a winner that will be appreciated by lovers of fine wines as well as his fan base.
Champagne Sanger was founded in 1952 by 16 winegrowers, mostly from the Montagne de Reims, who were keen to promote their celebrated Champagne terroir. They established the Sanger house in Avize both for wine study and production.
Blanc de Blancs is white Champagne made exclusively from white grapes, and usually Chardonnay. Grand Cru (French for ‘great growth’) is a regional wine classification that designates a vineyard known for its solid credentials for producing quality wine. A bottle may only use the term ‘Grand Cru’ if 100% of the grapes used are from Grand Cru villages.
Prominent characters of the grape
The Porte Noire Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is an exciting expression of matured Chardonnay, reflecting the quality of the chalky earth and prominent characters of the grape. There are hints of green apples, pears and baking bread on the nose. There is plenty of citrus freshness with notes of brioche toast and balanced minerality on the palate.
