In 1660 Nicolas Mariage made several voyages to Persia, the East Indies and India. He was part of a deputation chosen by King Louis XIV to sign a commercial treaty with the Shah of Persia.
A century later, Jean-François Mariage still traded tea, spices and exotic foods in Lille, France. He introduced his four sons, Louis, Aimé, Charles and Auguste, to the business. Aimé and Auguste founded Auguste Mariage and Company to perpetuate the family tradition.
In 1854, Henri and Édouard founded the Mariage Frères Tea House and became the leading French importer of tea. In 1990 the company opened the first Mariage Frères flagship store in the smart Ginza district of Tokyo, Japan. Other tea shops soon opened in Tokyo, then in other cities across Japan.
Mariage Frères continue their association with Japan with Sakura, Sakura! tea, which charms with its perfume of cherry blossom. This green tea presents evocative fragrance before the first sip.
