So many of us love the spice and complexity of authentic Indian food. Now we have an alternative to the local take-away. Mandira’s Kitchen can deliver delicious meals to one’s door.
Mandira moved to the UK with no cooking skills. She missed the tastes of home but spent the next 17 years working as a management consultant! Then, much to her parent’s horror, she walked away from the ‘proper job’ and set up Mandira’s Kitchen. She started with supper clubs and catering from her home kitchen, before moving to their present location overlooking the Silent Pool (near Guildford, Surrey), where the company presents award-winning food, offers culinary experiences and cookery lessons as well as home delivery – and there is an on-site café too!
We enjoyed a complete meal for two, frozen and delivered conveniently packed for cooking right away or putting in the freezer for later. The portions were generous and thoughtfully divided so that each dish could be appropriate for one or two. Just use what you need for a solo dinner or a cozy meal for a couple.
Hearty and made the perfect side dish
So, the delivery worked and the packaging was well designed, but what of the food? That was a delicious spread, and there was plenty of it. The Lemon Rice was well-seasoned and aromatic. The Samosas were some of the best I have ever tasted, with moist and tasty fillings and well-textured pastry. Palak Dal made with split yellow lentils was comforting and hearty and made the perfect side dish – although I wouldn’t feel short-changed if I had this as a main dish as part of a meat-free meal. Butter Chicken would be the test. It’s one of my favourite Indian dishes! Oh, the memory lingers: it was rich, delicious and addictive. The Mandira’s Kitchen creation has less cream than many other restaurant offerings but was no worse for it. The flavour of the ingredients shone in vibrant fashion.
Delivery is free on individual orders over £75 and for monthly subscribers. Mandira’s Kitchen delivers anywhere in mainland UK. Your meals will arrive in insulated boxes, which will keep your food at a safe temperature as long as it is transferred to the fridge or freezer on the day of arrival. Click & collect is free and orders need to be collected from the shop at the Silent Pool.
