Free-From Decadence!
This Confetti Cake is only the second gluten-free cake to be produced by the Just Love company, after their award-wining gluten-free Happy Birthday Cake. That won first place in the Baking Industry Awards ‘Free From’ category in November 2023. That is quite an accolade, as competition is stiff these days.
Company founder Mike Woods’ children were diagnosed with life-threatening nut allergies. Mike found it heartbreaking to see his children unable to share a celebration cake at parties. He started a company that creates delightful cakes that just happen to be suitable for those with allergies and dietary requirements – and those treats can be equally enjoyed by the rest of us!
Made in a nut-free, peanut-free, milk-free factory, Just Love’s Confetti Cake has no artificial colours or flavourings, contains RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) certified palm oil and is hand finished at Just Love’s factory in Blackwell.
Just Love’s Confetti Cake is a stunner. That aforementioned hand finishing shows in its polished presentation with an edging of colourful sweet confetti to add an element of fun. This would grace any celebration table in fine fashion.
But what of the interior of that refined baked good? That doesn’t disappoint either! I had a break from reviewing free-from products for a number of years because the baked offerings tended to be heavy and frankly unappetising. The industry has elevated this sector enormously and now cakes, puddings and pastries are indistinguishable from those traditional bakery items.
This gorgeous cake is perfect for feeding a crowd. It doesn’t scream ‘eat me I’m healthy’. It doesn’t have the persona of culinary deprivation. This is a proper cake with all the decadence one would hope for at the grand finale of any party. Vanilla frosting over three layers of light and moist vanilla sponge, with a plum and raspberry jam filling, is a winner. It is gluten free, milk free and nut free and is Just Love’s first large gluten free celebration cake. It serves 16, so has enough impact to thrill the guest of honour! Nobody will feel short-changed.
Just Love’s Confetti Cake will retail exclusively in Waitrose stores at an RRP of a very reasonable £16. This is a substantial cake and healthy competition for any pretty alternative.
