Dianthos Greek Rosé
Xinomavro grapes and Boutari Wineries.
The weather is warming up, and we are looking forward to lighter fare. Dianthos Greek Rosé from Tesco is a good choice for pre-dinner sipping, but also pairs well with summer dishes – and the price is attractive too!
Dianthos is Greek for Flower of the Gods. Greek mythology suggests that Zeus, king of the gods on Mount Olympus, envied his sister Hera’s own flower, the lily, so threw a bolt of lightning to invent an even better flower. It’s the Dianthus (pink, or small carnation) that we know today.
Boutari Dianthos Rosé 2025 showcases Xinomavro grapes. It’s a popular ancient grape which does so well in the mineral-rich, high-altitude soils of Naousa, Macedonia, in Northern Greece. The Naousa wine has a PGI designation – Protected Geographical Indication is a European Union quality scheme certifying that a wine originates from a specific region, has a quality or reputation associated with that area, and is made with at least 85% of grapes from that area.
This salmon-coloured rosé has balanced tannins making it the perfect wine for enjoying with seafood in creamy sauces. There are summer berries such as strawberries and raspberries here, so a delightful wine for the season.
