Delicious Christmas and Every Day at Westin London City

Celebrate at Mosaic by the Thames.

Mosaic eggIt will soon be the festive season, and we look for a location with ambiance, striking interiors and great food. Mosaic at Westin London City ticks all those boxes at Christmas – and all year round.

Westin London City is a favourite with families visiting London as well as those here for business in the City. It has a remarkable historic position by the iconic River Thames and opposite the Globe Theatre, a reconstruction of Shakespeare’s original. Mosaic is a stylish restaurant which has a marvellous view of Christopher Wren’s St. James Garlickhythe church. This is a stop on the religious pilgrims’ route which ends at the cathedral of Santiago da Compostela. Visitors to the London church may have their pilgrim passport stamped with the design of a scallop shell.

Mosaic offers breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, and there is a Champagne bar at night! The menu is broad international, and tempts with something for every taste. There are traditional British dishes, hearty plates as well as lighter choices. We enjoyed their regular menu and, to start, chose beef carpaccio, and charcoal asparagus with poached egg. Both delicious but that egg dish is a must-try, with perfect presentation.

I was looking for a salad and my Caesar salad with chicken breast was just right. No skimping on portions at Mosaic – this was a substantial meal! Visitors from overseas will likely want to try something local and the fish and chips here are as good as, if not better than, that found in most chip shops. The cod was plate-filling, and the chips and mushy peas were accompanied by a selection of sauces including a dish of tartar sauce. My advice to the untutored is to enjoy the fish with the tartar sauce and keep the ketchup for the chips! Deep epicurean joy! Dessert was a classic peach tart. We shared that fruity creation, and that was the perfect sweet taste at the end of a substantial dinner in a great contemporary space.Mosaic fruit tart

I always look forward to a hotel breakfast. The one at Mosaic was well-presented and considered its global guests: temptations for those wanting a full-English cooked brekkie; American visitors will enjoy pancakes and crispy bacon; there was plenty of healthy fruit, salads, cheeses, cold cuts, chia puddings, sweet pastries, toast, fruit juices, teas and coffees. Breakfast here gives the opportunity to graze and make plans for the day.

Mosaic will be the ideal spot for the run-up to the Christmas holidays: there will be a special menu (December 25th – Lunch – 12.30pm – 3.30pm; Dinner – 5.30pm to 9.00pm), and there is also an à la carte Christmas Day Menu. It’s bound to be popular! There is a Group Party Menu (Thursday November 20th – Tuesday December 23rd). Don’t miss the Afternoon Tea Menu (+ Vegetarian + Vegan: November 20th – January 4th).

Westin London City has an outstanding cocktail bar overlooking the Thames. It’s called Hithe + Seek and it has a special New Year’s Eve Food Menu (December 31st from 7:30pm).

There are Carol Singers in The Haven, the ground floor entrance hall, on Thursdays: November 27th and December 4th, 11th and 18th (5:30pm-7:30pm) with Mulled Wine, Hot Chocolate and Mince Pies. That is bound to get guests in the mood for the celebrations ahead.
