Idahoan Herb MashThat came around quick! Yes, it’s heading towards Christmas at frightening speed and we are planning meals. Those dinners are not just for the big day but the week before and all through till the New Year. Idahoan instant mash potatoes are here to support.

If we love cooking then we enjoy the opportunity to boast that we made everything by hand from fresh ingredients. But then there is the real world of rush, and that’s where Idahoan finds a place.

That frenetic activity starts with the lead up to Christmas. If you have kids, they will be home from school and wanting three meals a day. If you are single, your life will be filled with work obligations, rounds of office parties and social get-togethers… but you still need to eat.

Instant mash was developed when dehydration was used to make food for the US troops in 1942. Idahoan mash was born in 1960 when Idahoan developed an innovative proprietary dehydration process that better preserved the natural potato taste and texture. It’s a convenient and tasty addition to your Yuletide pantry, and will be enjoyed by every member of your family.

Idahoan has plenty of tempting recipes on their site, but here is one that is pure comfort food. Sausage and Idahoan Mash Pie is simple to make and won’t break the bank, and that is a consideration these days!

Sausage and Idahoan Mash Pie

Idahoan Sausage PieServes 3

6 sausages of your choice
1 white onion, finely sliced
2 tbsp vegetable oil
200ml instant or ready-made beef gravy
1 packet Idahoan Butter and Herb Instant Mash or your choice from the Idahoan range
3-4 tbsp crispy onions

Method
1) Preheat the oven to 200°C.

2) Place the sausages and onions into an ovenproof dish, drizzle with the vegetable oil and place in the oven until the sausages are cooked and the onions are soft. This should take about 20-25 minutes.

3) Make up the gravy, if using instant, and prepare the Idahoan mash according to package instructions.

4) Pour the gravy over the sausages and onions, then top evenly with the mash, using a fork to create some texture. This will make for an attractive presentation.

5) Sprinkle with crispy onions then return to the oven for 10-15 minutes to brown the mash before serving.

This is the perfect one-dish dinner – not much prep and even less washing up!
