Whiskey and Cocktails at the Grey Horse

A Taste of Scotland and Beyond.

The Grey Horse bottlesSo many of us appreciate a well-crafted Scotch, but it’s likely that we don’t think of Kingston Upon Thames as the perfect location for a world class collection. That is unless you have discovered The Grey Horse.

The whisky and whiskey (yes, there is a difference) menu is awesome. It offers spirits from every working distillery in Scotland as well as a creditable selection from around the globe. There are Irish Whiskeys aplenty. There are US Bourbons and Ryes. There are whiskies from Japan and a collection of whiskeys from unexpected places too. For instance, you might not know that Sweden produces whisky, but here it is!

Tasting brings the subject to life

I am fascinated by whisky, and I am studying for my whisky qualification. The Grey Horse is a delightful ‘homework’ resource. I can make my own bespoke flight and learn the differences between styles, and without the need of investing in whole bottles. Tasting brings the subject to life. Anyone wanting to learn more about these spirits would appreciate an evening of sipping at The Grey Horse.

But The Grey Horse isn’t all about ‘study’. There are cocktails to be had here as well. The bar is well stocked with a creditable range of every alcohol with which to supply guests with both classic and innovative libations. A fruity summer cooler is the Slut Dragon, a mix of fruit gins and juices presented as a long drink with plenty of ice. The Negroni is for the purist and the cocktail of choice for those looking for that traditional flavour of Dry Gin, sweet vermouth and Campari.

The Grey Horse is also celebrated for its barbecue. The portions are generous, and the meats and side dishes are fingerlickingly good. Try some chicken wings as a bar snack or as a starter; they are moreish. There is something on the menu for every taste and appetite so make an evening of it. There are events and music here, too, so take a look at their website for more information.
