This white and golden-thatched bungalow stands separated from the main body of the hotel and on the edge of the lagoon. It can be accessed only by guests of the Club Rooms, One-Bedroom Suites and Two-Bedroom Villas. Those superb accommodations are enhanced still further by the addition of the Voyager 47 Club Lounge to the package.
The Lounge offers alfresco as well as enclosed air-conditioned seating. It is contemporary, light and airy but has the accessible ambiance of a tasteful home. Granted, that home would be a large one, but evidently the owner has lots of friends and enjoys convivial entertaining! There are plenty of soft sofas and cosy chairs, coffee tables, magazines and always a warm welcome.
One could start one’s day at the Club Lounge. There is a spread of fruit, pastries, and hot Asian specialities, along with an à la carte breakfast menu of European favourites which is bound to tempt. Cool soft drinks fill the chiller and there is a non-ending supply of both tea and coffee. Breakfast is a leisurely affair here. Time to read a newspaper and perhaps plan one’s day. Yes, there is plenty to do at Outrigger… or one could just relax and enjoy the view.
Gems of sweet delight
But brekkie is just the start! Voyager 47 Club Lounge also offers all-day tea, coffee and refreshments. It’s a haven of calm and the perfect place for a spot of afternoon tea. It’s a civilized occasion, where one can enjoy a pot of proper tea, a round or two of sandwiches – and then there are those cakes. They are gems of sweet delight, but the patisserie chef has been thoughtful and has made them small enough so that eating a couple won’t seem too much… and one is on vacation, after all.
And then it’s evening, and a savoury epicurean adventure awaits the guest at the Club Lounge! There is a list of half a dozen cocktails and they are all good, but my favourite is the Gin Fizz. And don’t miss the Long Island Iced Tea. Yes, there is real tea in there someplace, but lots of other adult beverages make up this classic cocktail.
One should always have classy nibbles with smart cocktails, and Executive Chef Roberto Conrad presents tasting-plates. These are individual platters of four unique savouries that could be inspired by either traditional Asian or European cuisines. These architectural plates change every day so there will always be a tasty surprise awaiting in this cosy sitting-room.
Voyager 47 Club Lounge is a great asset to the Outrigger Resort. The friendly staff are helpful and attentive. Breakfast, sweet treats, evening nibbles and cocktails are all first class. I think I’ll ask for the recipe for their addictive Coconut Cake; and how do they make that stunning blue Milky Andaman cocktail?
