Tesco Finest Austrian Grüner Veltliner

This organic wine by Nikolaus Moser is from the vineyards that edge the River Danube in Niederösterreich in Austria. Grüner Veltliner (Green Veltliner) is a delightful wine from a country that produces great bottles which are often overlooked.

In 2000 Nikolaus took over the business from his father and now runs this company which has a long family history. Grüner Veltliner 2025 is one of his vintages. This grape variety might be new to you, but it is the most-planted grape in Austria.

Niederösterreich is the country’s largest Qualitätswein wine-growing region and is found to the southeast of the capital, Vienna. The climate lends itself to the production of wines with freshness and this Grüner Veltliner is a great example. It is a classic crisp and dry expression of Grüner Veltliner wines. It offers the expected notes of pepper along with tart apples and plenty of sharp high notes of lemons and limes. The finish is medium with lingering minerality.

This Austrian Grüner Veltliner is a good all-rounder with regard to food pairings. Served well chilled this could be your wine of choice for a buffet with a wide variety of foods on offer. A very reasonable price from Tesco Finest, too.
