His fascination with maturation saw him launch the highly successful Glengoyne cask programme.

William Ovens, Head of Private Clients, commented: “I am delighted to be launching this exciting new business alongside my friend and colleague Stuart Hendry. Stuart has made an outstanding contribution to Ian Macleod Distillers over the past two decades, creating world-class visitor experiences that have become recognised throughout the industry.

“Our goal is to build long-term relationships with private clients and provide access to some of the most remarkable whisky stocks in Scotland. We look forward to welcoming clients to our distilleries, including Tamdhu, which remains closed to the general public. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences and stay at our beautiful Customs House accommodation on the Tamdhu estate which is perched above the River Spey.”

Award-winning whisky and environmental credentials

Stuart Hendry, Private Client Director, added: “Few whisky companies can offer the breadth, quality and rarity of stocks that exist within the Ian Macleod Distillers portfolio. From Rosebank Lowland Single Malt, the acclaimed and highly collectable ‘King of the Lowlands’ (which was voted ‘The World’s Best Whisky’ in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2025) to Tamdhu Speyside Single Malt, the only single malt to be exclusively matured in Oloroso Sherry Casks (voted ‘Overall Winner’ at the recent Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival) and Glengoyne Highland Single Malt, renowned for its beautiful distillery, award-winning whisky and environmental credentials, we are exceptionally fortunate custodians of some truly extraordinary casks. Crucially, our clients gain the reassurance of purchasing directly from the distillery owner and brand custodian, providing transparency, provenance and peace of mind throughout their ownership journey.”

The Private Client Business will operate through a combination of direct client relationships and a carefully selected network of specialist partners with established connections to high-net-worth individuals and collectors around the world.

The launch further strengthens Ian Macleod Distillers’ position in the luxury whisky sector, creating a dedicated platform for collectors seeking rare and exclusive opportunities from one of Scotland’s most respected independent whisky companies.

Some of Scotland’s Rarest Whisky Casks and Bottles.
