It’s fizzy and made with a method which pre-dates Champagne. It’s Alma 4 Phos Pet Nat, made using the Méthode Ancestrale.

Pet Nat is short for the French pétillant naturel, meaning “naturally sparkling”. The method originates from Limoux, in southern France. The sparkling wine from this region is thought to be the original sparkling wine and predating Champagne!

No filtration

This wine is made by bottling before the primary fermentation is finished, which allows the secondary fermentation and carbonation to take place inside the bottle. This method results in a cloudy, and pleasantly fizzy wine. There is no filtration, so sediment is often found at the bottom of the bottle. This is expected, so not a problem.

Pet Nat has bubbles that are lighter than those in Prosecco, with the flavours of fresh fruit and herbs along with sweet breads. Alma 4 Phos Pet Nat from Mendoza, Argentina is produced from Chardonnay grapes and has balanced acidity, so pairs well with many dishes – although it’s a delightful wine served well chilled as a summer evening sip.

Alma 4 Phos Pet Nat 2025 will support spicy foods and also Japanese dishes, seafood, fish and white meats. It’s the ideal talking point for a lunch or dinner party!

Find this and other wines at Tesco

Méthode Ancestrale.
