Glengoyne Mizunara Oak is a 16-Year-Old limited edition and will be eagerly awaited by whisky lovers who will appreciate its subtle character.

The Highland distillery is found near the Dumgoyne Hill near Loch Lomond. In 1833 George Connell was granted a license to legally produce single malt whisky in the area. This distillery has been around for more than a century and a half, being renamed Glengoyne in 1906. It is celebrated for its well-crafted and award-winning single malts. This latest expression is another example of polish and attention to detail.

Glengoyne Mizunara Oak is part of The Glengoyne Oak Masters’ Series. Glengoyne Mizunara is the third release in the collection, with others slated for launches in the future. This significant release follows White Oak and White Oak 24-Year-Old. The series is a whisky collector’s dream!

The Mizunara Oak casks are made from one of the world’s rarest woods. Mizunara is native to Japan’s northern Hokkaido region where summers are warm, and winters are long, cold and snowy. Mizunara means ‘water oak’ in Japanese. Mizu is the common word for water and nara (depending on how it is written) means oak tree. The name refers to the wood’s extremely high water content, its porous properties, and its tendency to leak. Yes, it’s a difficult wood to work with, but the delicious results make the effort a worthy one.

This unique whisky has first been matured in Glengoyne’s classic first-fill sherry and refill casks for 10 years and is then matured in those Mizunara Oak casks for a further six years, and bottled at 53.4% ABV. This whisky was awarded a coveted Double Gold Medal at the International Spirits Challenge 2025. With only a limited number of bottles – 3,195 in total – and priced at £300 (RRP), it is available worldwide and from the distillery shop. Now Glengoyne Mizunara Oak is included in the Fine & Rare tasting experience at the distillery.

Tasting notes

Nose: vanilla, brown sugar, wood and spice.

Palate: Christmas spices, coconut, orchard fruits, white blossoms.

Finish: Long, silky and mouth-filling.

The bottle comes in an elegant box giving a nod to the beauty of Japanese nature, art and calligraphy, featuring a Mizunara Oak Tree, and a Glengoyne goose – the brand’s namesake which is a symbol of the distillery’s commitment to the environment.

Visit Glengoyne here

Rare single malt whisky.
