This Cask Strength Limited Edition was released on 1st May 2025 to coincide with the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.

The Tamdhu distillery has been around for a while! In 1897, a group of dedicated entrepreneurs had a mission to create the finest whisky in the world. They raised today’s equivalent of £20 million and set to work. The distillery architect and engineer Charles C Doig was employed and a site by the River Spey was chosen.

Production continued successfully, and whisky reached record popularity in the 1970s; Tamdhu expanded further to meet the growing demand. Sadly in 2010, outside pressures forced the distillery to close, but at the start of 2012 Ian Macleod Distillers opened Tamdhu Distillery once again. The family company, using the same processes and 100% sherry oak cask maturation, continued production. In December 2018 Tamdhu’s Distillery Manager, Sandy McIntyre, was awarded Icons of Whisky (Scotland) Distillery Manager of the Year – Tamdhu was back on the map!

Tamdhu 21-Year-Old Single Malt Whisky is the oldest whisky in the core collection. This exceptional malt whisky has been nurtured and matured only in Oloroso sherry casks. But this spirit is impressive before one even uncorks the bottle!

Tamdhu trademark statuesque bottle

The packaging is striking and as well-crafted as the whisky within. It gives a nod to Moorish Spain, with panels reminiscent of the window-screens of the Alhambra – an intricately tooled box and dark wood trim. A fitting and beautifully striking home for the instantly recognisable Tamdhu trademark statuesque bottle.

This latest addition to the Tamdhu stable has been waiting for this moment in hand-selected American and European oak casks, and that maturation adds so much delicious complexity to the finished spirit. It presents a whisky of mouth-coating fullness with notes of brown sugar, dark chocolate and delicate oak, with a soupçon of aromatic smoke and dried fruit. It has a perfect balance of initial rich sweetness followed by fresh and very long, lingering, grassy dryness.

Every year, around 2% of the whisky is lost to the “angel’s share”, which is that portion which evaporates. So over 21 years that’s …quite a lot! The angels, in their gratitude, have blessed this Tamdhu whisky with an appealing character which won’t disappoint lovers of the celebrated brand.

Only 250 individually numbered bottles are available, making this an exceptional gift – although who could ever give away such a noteworthy whisky? Not I!

Visit Tamdhu here https://www.tamdhu.com

Exceptional Sherry Cask Matured.
