As legend has it, terrified smugglers, fearful of the curse of the mighty sea monster Kraken, stashed a trove of barrels of delicious Black Spiced Rum. Lost for centuries, these exotic riches were dashed together by time and preserved amidst the cool breeze and crisp salt of the Cornish Sea. Modern adventurers recently retrieved this rare bounty of rum, or so the story goes. I am not persuaded by that tall tale but rather assume that KRAKEN Black Spiced Rum is more likely crafted by professionals, with not a hint of a pirate musket or cutlass anywhere in the distillery.

Presentation is distinctive

The bottle is in the fashion of a Victorian rum flagon, with two hoop handles based on the tradition of hanging a bottle to prevent breakages. The bottle has a black and white paper label featuring an illustration of a giant squid captioned with its scientific name, Architeuthis dux. The presentation is distinctive and easily spotted on the supermarket shelves.

KRAKEN Black Spiced Rum is a Caribbean rum blended with spices for a rich smoothness and balanced flavour. On the nose it displays brown sugar, vanilla and toffee aromas. The palate offers more vanilla and notes of Christmas spices, and a little citrus peel. The finish is medium with lingering freshness.

KRAKEN Black Spiced Rum is a great all-rounder. It’s a lovely winter sip when sitting by your log fire… or radiator. It’s a great base for your rum-inspired cocktails but I also use this to make a delicious syrup to drizzle over plain sponge.

Visit KRAKEN here

Cocktails and Sipping.
