But what is Pet Nat? It is an abbreviation for ‘petillant naturel’, a natural sparkling beverage that is made with as little intervention as possible. In this case it is in reference to a French cider, Vranja Cuvée.

After training in Normandy, Switzerland and Luxembourg cider houses, André Fabre returned to his native Languedoc to develop his own cider house. He produces the Vranja Cuvée, a natural sparkling cider which is uniquely made from quince, apple and pear.

Vranja Cuvée is a wonderful alternative to conventional sparkling wines for the festive season. It is bursting with orchard flavours; it is dry with a pleasing lingering finish. It is refreshing and makes a delightful pre-dinner sip, but can be enjoyed across the meal.

Choice for your New Year dinner

This cider is lively with persistent bubbles and citrus aromas. It’s a great choice to pair with, say, simply roast pork. Use it as the base for your gravy or sauce, where it will add a hint of apple and acidity to cut through that rich and flavourful pork fat. This could be your bottle of choice for your New Year dinner. It works well with some light desserts – try this with your apple pie or pear tart.

Artisanal Pet Nat Vranja Cuvée is versatile and delicious. Serve well-chilled at 6°C to show off its clean and fruity profile. It’s only 5% ABV, so far less alcoholic than your usual wine – and that can be a bonus when your evening is expected to be long and convivial.

Refreshing orchard flavours.
