Des Tourelles Claret Bordeaux is a reflection of the contemporary style of red wine rather than the less robust rosé of centuries past.

Claret is mostly used as an unofficial name to describe Bordeaux red wines in general, although it’s a protected name under EU law and it is mentioned in Bordeaux’s appellation rules. The UK government has recognised claret as a registered ‘traditional wine term’ within the Bordeaux PDO.

Founded in 1897 as a family business, Yvon Mau has generations of expertise in sourcing, blending and making wine. A subsidiary of the Spanish Freixenet group since 2001, the company is now part of the German Henkell Freixenet group. Yvon Mau has become one of the frontrunners in the Bordeaux wine industry. In partnership with the CIVB (Bordeaux Wine Council), it has committed to an environmental approach by joining the first association for Bordeaux wine SMEs to hold ISO 14001 certification, and by getting involved in CIVB’s ‘Bordeaux Cultivons Demain’ project.

Des Tourelles Claret is a medium-bodied red wine with flavour of black berries, stone fruit, plums and white pepper. It is bold, dry, with balanced tannins and acid. It is great value for money and that is a consideration in these tough times. It’s a wine to grab for the holiday season, being such a good all-rounder. It can be enjoyed on its own, but I think it better lends itself to pairing with meals. It is light enough to marry with pasta dressed with light sauces, and with chicken, but it holds up well with red meats and well-seasoned vegetarian dishes too.

Find this and other wines from Tesco here

Steeped in Tradition.
