Officers were given gin &#8211; specifically Navy Strength Gin &#8211; whilst sailors were given rum. The demise of this long seafaring tradition is commemorated annually.<\/p>\n<p>For all those suffering sailors, and other lovers of strong well-crafted gin, Rock Rose Gin created a cocktail called, aptly,\u00a0<em>The Suffering Sailor<\/em>. You will experience a\u00a0strong warm\u00a0pine\u00a0release at the front of the drink with notes of\u00a0lemon sherbet.\u00a0\u00a0The heart of the drink delivers very bold berry notes from blaeberries, rowan berries and hawthorn.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0These give way to the deeper earthier notes that are hidden in the original Rock Rose, including\u00a0<span class=\"x_Emphasis\">angelica<\/span><em>\u00a0<\/em>and<em>\u00a0<\/em><span class=\"x_Emphasis\">orris<\/span><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>The Suffering Sailor Cocktail recipe<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>35ml Rock Rose Navy Strength<br \/>\n35ml Bourbon<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>35ml Freshly squeezed lime juice<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>1 dash Angostura bitters<\/p>\n<p>Chilled ginger beer<\/p>\n<p><strong>Garnish:<\/strong>\u00a0a slice of orange and a sprig of mint.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Place the top four ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and then strain into a Collins glass half filled with ice.
