I would say ‘hidden gem’ but it is a surprisingly popular corner of one of the smartest areas in London. Sloane Place is a hotel which deserves many happy returns.

Situated just off Sloane Square, Sloane Place is a boutique hotel and café bar offering guests and locals a convivial spot which dispenses warm hospitality and hot food and drinks. This truly is part of the community, with families popping in on the way to school and regulars visiting for meals from breakfast to dinner.

Attractive roof terrace

This delightful hotel is small yet perfectly proportioned and appointed. The décor is tasteful and classic. The restaurant and bar on the ground floor are complemented by a attractive roof terrace which has the ambiance of a private courtyard. It’s a haven away from the noise and energy of Sloane Street below.

We enjoyed our Cosy Room. It is promoted as the ideal room for short stays or solo travels. Yes, it is compact but it sports all the amenities which one would expect from a much larger room in a polished 4-star hotel – apart from carpet acreage. There was the ubiquitous flat-screen TV, air conditioning, free WiFi, safe, tea/coffee station and a great shower room. There is ample hanging space and even an iron, which is a necessity oft overlooked by more celebrated hotels. The accommodation also features a 24-hour front desk, a concierge service and the organisation of tours for guests.

After one’s comfortable night’s stay it will be time to search for breakfast. If one has dined here the night before then a late breakfast might be in order, and one’s expectations for that morning plate will have been elevated. There is plenty on the menu for every taste.

The whole menu is tempting

Breakfast is available weekdays from 7.30am until 11am and weekends from 8am until 11am. All breakfast items are available for take-away. Breakfast signature dishes include Belgian waffles, toasted sourdough, and blueberry pancakes, but the whole menu is tempting. Homemade nutty granola with organic jumbo oats or a bowl of mixed berries are just a couple of the healthy brekkie options; and then there are pastries for those who want a quick morning nibble. There are plenty of eggy choices with a selection of classic add-ons. We chose Eggs Benedict with toast and jams paired with cups of freshly brewed tea. The perfect start to the day. The Full English sounded delicious. Black pudding is included and that is a must-have if one wants to try a real English breakfast – I’ll sample that on my next visit. The chef proved his culinary credentials at dinner and obviously takes the most important meal of the day just as seriously.

The food is outstanding at Sloane Place and the staff are evidently trained to the same high standard. Though perhaps it’s not just training but careful personnel selection which is the key to moulding such a creditable crew. They are just as much an asset as the comfortable rooms and delicious dishes.

Sloane Place has the ideal location for a business trip, a romantic weekend in town or for sightseeing. It is centrally located in London’s smart Chelsea and is a short walk to Sloane Square and its Underground station. Victoria Underground, railway and coach stations are also about 20 minutes away, or five minutes via taxi or public transport. The hotel is just 1 mile from the Victoria and Albert Museum and 1 mile from Harrods – which might, for some, be an even bigger draw!

Sloane Place
62 Lower Sloane Street
Chelsea
London SW1W 8BP

Email: enquiries@sloaneplace.com

Phone: 020 3928 0700

Boutique and Beautiful on Lower Sloane Street What a gem!
