This bitter-sweet comedy will begin performances at Chichester Festival theatre on 17 February 2022 and tour to Cambridge, Guildford, Cardiff, Richmond, Brighton, Bath and Malvern.<\/p>\n<p>Stage and screen actress\u00a0<strong>Dame Penelope Keith\u00a0<\/strong>will collaborate once again with director\u00a0<strong>Alan Strachan\u00a0<\/strong>and designer<strong>\u00a0Simon Higlett<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0<strong><em>Two Cigarettes in the Dark<\/em><\/strong>, a brand new play by\u00a0<strong>Stephen Wyatt<\/strong>,\u00a0produced by\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Church Theatre Productions\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Cambridge Arts Theatre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bright, witty, and fiercely independent, Isabel is not ready to let go just yet.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In a series of encounters with an old friend and her two sons, by turns funny, startling and poignant, home truths are exchanged, and her past begins to emerge.\u00a0 As Isabel confronts her own hidden regrets and family secrets, we learn what hides below the surface of this proud mother, wife, and friend. Finally, Isabel is able to make peace with her life and say goodbye.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This bittersweet comedy will tour next year to\u00a0<strong>Chichester Festival Theatre<\/strong>\u00a0(17\u00a0\u2013 26 February),\u00a0<strong>Cambridge Arts Theatre<\/strong>\u00a0(3 March \u2013 12 March),\u00a0<strong>Yvonne Arnaud Theatre<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Guildford<\/strong>\u00a0(14 \u2013 19 March),\u00a0<strong>New Theatre, Cardiff<\/strong>\u00a0(22 \u2013 26 March),\u00a0<strong>Richmond Theatre<\/strong>\u00a0(28 March \u2013 2 April),\u00a0<strong>Theatre Royal Brighton<\/strong>\u00a0(4 \u2013 9 April),\u00a0<strong>Theatre Royal Bath<\/strong>\u00a0(19 \u2013 23 April) and\u00a0<strong>Malvern Theatres\u00a0<\/strong>(25 \u2013 30 April). \u00a0Press Night will be on Friday 4 March at Cambridge Arts Theatre.\u00a0 More casting is to be announced in due course.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dame Penelope Keith said:\u00a0<\/strong><em>\u201cFollowing this difficult\u00a0period for regional theatres I am delighted to be bringing this new play to a group of\u00a0theatres and audiences who have been important to me over the years.\u00a0 When I read Stephen&#8217;s touching and amusing play which has at its centre a\u00a0(rare to find)\u00a0role for an actress of a certain age, I\u00a0knew immediately I wanted to play the part and bring this play to audiences across the country.\u201d \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dame Penelope Keith<\/strong>\u00a0is renowned for her many acclaimed roles on stage and screen, most notably in the iconic British sitcoms\u00a0<em>The Good Life<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>To The Manor Born<\/em>. \u00a0Her recent theatre credits include\u00a0<em>The Chalk Garden<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Mrs Pat<\/em>,<em>\u00a0The Way of the World<\/em>\u00a0and<em>\u00a0Entertaining Angels\u00a0<\/em>(all Chichester Festival Theatre).\u00a0 Her most recent television appearances include\u00a0<em>Penelope Keith\u2019s Hidden Villages<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Penelope Keith\u2019s Coastal Villages<\/em>\u00a0on Channel 4.\u00a0\u00a0She was appointed Dame Commander
