Mustard Tarte\u2019 resplendent with Tomato \u2018Crimson Plum\u2019 \u2026many of Burpee\u2019s recipes, devised by the chef <strong>Valerie Hamelin<\/strong>, can be made in advance before consuming.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Tips for picnic food:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make our Burpee scones and tarte the day before and keep in fridge ready for the next day<\/li>\n<li>Make your own salsa and use plenty of lime juice that will keep it fresh.<\/li>\n<li>Use an ice box where possible to keep food protected.\u00a0 Frozen bottles of water make great extra ice packs too!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Flower Display Ideas<\/strong><br \/>\nA sumptious display can be produced for the picnic blanket through selecting Burpee\u2019s blooms that are in flower and just ripe for the picking and displaying.<\/p>\n<p>Celosia \u2018Fandance Purple\u2019 is just amazing in any display and perfect for carrying as they are sturdy plants.\u00a0 These flowers are so vibrant they even look stunning with some simple foliage such as silvery Eucalytpus tree leaves.<\/p>\n<p>And if you want to make a big, cheerful, summery statement, even one bloom of Tagetes (African Marigold) \u2018Mission Giant\u2019 has a real wow factor!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Tips for flower displaying:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Display in jam jars &amp; cracked pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Method:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Place the pre rolled pastry in a 10 inch diameter tarte mould.<\/li>\n<li>Blind bake the pastry at 180 degrees until the pastry is golden brown.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the tarte from the oven and spread the mustard on the base.<\/li>\n<li>Slice the tomatoes, and neatly place them on top of the cooked pastry, drizzle the olive oil ,add cracked pepper &amp; drained<\/li>\n<li>2 Tbsp. Parmesan cheese \u2013 grated (place some to the side for the top of scones before baking)<\/li>\n<li>Fresh chives \u2013 chopped<\/li>\n<li>150ml Milk<\/li>\n<li>1 egg yolk to egg wash the scones<\/li>\n<li>Salt &amp; cracked pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Method:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heat the oven at 200 degrees, in a bowl place the flour, baking powder and the salt &amp; pepper.<\/li>\n<li>Add the butter and rub with your fingertips until it forms large breadcrumbs.<\/li>\n<li>Add the parmesan cheese, the drained courgettes and the chopped chives.<\/li>\n<li>Mix in and pour the milk using a fork to bring the mix together.<\/li>\n<li>On a clean work surface, pour the mix and roll it to 2 cm thick using a (fluted) cutter.<\/li>\n<li>Place the scones on a baking tray, brush with the egg yolk, place some grated parmesan cheese and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until risen and golden brown.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Note:<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nBurpee DO NOT sell direct to the consumer.
