Cooking time: 15 Minutes

Ingredients

    50g plain flour
    25g butter or margarine
    25g caster sugar
    Beaten egg to mix
    50g icing sugar, sifted
    1 - 2 teaspoons warm water
    Selection of food colourings

    Chocolate sugar strands
    Hundreds & thousands
    Jelly sweets
    Silver balls
    Sugar flowers

Method
Preheat the oven to 180°C, 350°F, gas mark 4.

Sift the flour into a bowl and rub in the fat until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the caster sugar and enough beaten egg to mix to a firm dough.

Turn onto a floured surface and knead until smooth. Roll out thinly and cut into shapes using a small fluted cutter, or diamond, star, heart or animal shaped cutters.

Place on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden. Cool on the baking sheet.

Place the icing sugar in a mixing bowl and gradually add the water until the icing coats the back of a spoon thickly. Divide the icing into portions and colour each as desired.

Spoon a little icing onto each biscuit, spread almost to the edges and decorate as desired.
