Christmas Tree Cookies

Simple to make, attractive edible decorations for the Christmas tree.

Serves: Makes 30recipe
Preparation time: 20 Minutes
Cooking time: 15 Minutes

Ingredients

    75g butter, at room temperature
    75g light muscovado sugar
    1 medium size egg, beaten
    250g plain flour

    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1 tablespoon ground ginger
    Ready to roll icing and edible cake decorations

Method

Preheat the oven to 180°C, fan 160 ° C, gas 4.
   
Beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then gradually beat in the egg. Sift in the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly to form a dough.
   
Knead gently on a lightly floured surface, then wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
   
Roll out to a thickness of 2-3 mm and cut out shapes using a star or other Christmas shape cutter. Arrange the shapes on baking trays lined with baking parchment and make a small hole in each biscuit to thread ribbon through when cooked. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden then transfer to a wire rack to cool and crisp.
   
When cold decorate with icings and sweet decorations from the homebaking range at Sainsburys. thread ribbon through the hole and use to decorate the Christmas tree!
